“Front Porch” is an Umphrey’s McGee song that seems to have fallen by the wayside in the past five years despite the high demand from fans across the country. The band only busts out this rarity on special occasions, usually to fill unexpected gaps in a setlist, but never as a request for century club inaugurations. After delivering an unforgettable performance at their 2000th show in Madison, Umphrey’s has decided to shelve the classic drinking song indefinitely. “The fact is, ‘Front Porch’ is no longer relevant,” guitarist Brendan Bayliss shared. “I actually hang out more on my back porch these days.”
It is undeniable that the Umphrey’s boys have grown into men over the past decade and this particular song no longer fits their “grownup” lifestyles. In fact, many band members are now home owners themselves that understand how property value can decrease when unruly neighbors loiter in front of their homes, drinking 40’s and playing loud music. Now that the band has matured into adults, they see the error in their ways and regret being such shitty neighbors in their early twenties. Interestingly enough, keyboardist Joel Cummins was never sold on the young adult classic. “I was never really able to relate to ‘Front Porch’,” nobly explained Joel. “It’s kind of immature.”
